Hello Nick... Wednesday June 09 1993, Nick Grenfell writes to Mitch Ames: NG> I thought that if one end drops DTR that the other would timeout and hang NG> up .. why isn't dropping DTR not necessarally the same as hanging up? Because the modem may not be configured to drop carrier and hang up. Any modem configured properly should, but there is no guarantee. If the modem doesn't have &D1 in the init string, in memory, or set by default, dropping DTR may not cause the modem to hang up. But it's safe to assume that it will if we're talking modern, standard, IBM PC modems running recent software. Brian $$ --- FMail 0.94 * Origin: Brian's Board (1:3641/202)
